Awsome Arm Workout

When the temperature outside drops, we tend to pull out the baggy sweatshirts, or anything comfortable that will keep us warm. However, in Georgia, the temperature does not stay cool for very long. It tends to get warmer outside much earlier than other places around the country. This means putting those baggy sweatshirts away, and pulling out the sleeveless spring shirts. This can be a dreaded season of the year, because it means exposing more skin, and making the extra helpings from those holiday meals visible. Since the arms are usually exposed more than other areas of the body, I have a few exercises that help tone the different sections of the arm. In order to do this exercise, you will need a pair of either 3 or 5 pound dumbells. Before starting this simple exercise, make sure your arms are stretched. My post on stretching should help. To begin, hold a dumbbell in each hand, and begin to slowly curl, bending your arm at the elbow. Do 12-20 reps. This is a good way to work the biceps. Then move into a lunge, and hold only one dumbell. Put the hand without the dumbell on the knee for support. Pull your elbow back and slowly begin to extend your arms. You should also do 12-20 reps of these. It works the triceps. The video below demonstrates these exercises well. This is a very simple workout that can be done very quickly. Doing this two times a day will get your arms tone and ready for those sleeveless summer shirts.

Intro to Fitness- STRETCHING

Fitness involves the movement of any muscle you plan on toning. In order to be safe, you must stretch properly before any exercise. Many people thing stretching is the first thing to do when working out. However, warm -ups are important to get the body loose for stretching. The purpose of warm-ups includes: keeping muscles supple, increasing range of motion of joints, enhancing flexibility, improving coordination, increasing body temperature and heart rate, increasing blood flow to muscles and preventing injuries. Once warm-ups are complete, you may begin stretching. It does not matter what you stretch first, I would start with the arms. Stretching the shoulders and wrists is very important. Interlace your fingers and turn your palms outward. Hold for 10 to 20 seconds. This stretches both your wrists and your shoulders. It is also important to stretch the tripceps and waist. In order to do this, extend your arms above your head and place one elbow behing your head. Hold until you feel a slight pull.
Stretching your ankles is importnat and sounds impossible, but it's actually easy! Simple rotate each foot 8-10 times in a clockwise motion, and then change to counter clockwise. This stretch is very important if you are planning on going for a run. Your legs are probably the most important part of your body to stretch before working out. Without your legs, how much working out could you do? Not much. So begin by stretching the calf. Find a wall or flat, vertical surface, and put pressure on the toes. Then move up to stretching your thighs. Lunges are usually the best exercise for the thighs. Place one foot in front of you, and then stretch the opposite leg behing you. Put all of your weight on the front leg.
After these simple exercises, you should be ready for your workout!

Introduction Blog

Welcome to my blog! My name is Kelli, and I am a high school Senior. Like many other high school girls, I am currently addicted to the book and movie Twilight. Though I can not put the book, Twilight, down, I usually do not enjoy reading. I love movies. If there is a movie that I enjoy, I could watch it over and over again. I love to eat. That quality would probably turn any reader of this blog away. Who is going to take fitness advice from a girl who loves to eat? Just know, I have a fast metabolism, and I know many different exercises to tone muscle.  Sorry boys, this blog is targeted toward women. I am not interested in building muscle; I am only concerned with toning the muscle I have. This blog will be in use throughout Spring and possibly Summer. This blog will be filled with helpful advice to get you ready for the beach!  So take out that bikini! Your hot bathing suit body is on the way!
